Having seen the cowl in person at the Vogue Trunk Show, I can say that is it really lovely. It looks great down as well as a cowl. I love the Merino/Angora/Cashmere blend and just might make it myself!
I would love to make the Eyelet Cowl in the Holiday 2009 issue of Vogue. But the yarn when it can be found (most shops do NOT have it) is about $130 per skein! The cowl would cost me about $260 just for the yarn! Lets get real folks.

I agree with the above post; beautiful tho' the yarn & cowl may be, the $$$ is prohibitive. I'll be singin' the substitution blues if I make this.
So the fact that you can't afford it means Vogue shouldn't have published it? No one else should have what YOU can't have?
Get real indeed. Go read KnitSimple.
